CHURCH HISTORY Bethany Baptist
THE BEGINNING
Our church's story began on May 3, 1987 in a home in Enfield, CT. Twenty-three believers gathered together to begin a new ministry, trusting the Lord's guidance and seeking to follow His will. Our first prayer meeting was held just three days later with thirty-five in attendance.
We held our first Sunday services on May 24, 1987 in the gymnasium of Alcorn School in Enfield. As the congregation grew, it became clear we needed a larger space. Less than two years later, we began meeting at the Windsor Locks Senior Center. After a unanimous vote to build a more permanent building, we broke ground on September 6, 1992, marking an exciting milestone in our church's history at the location where we continue to gather in East Windsor.
THE BUILDING PROJECT
Our church's building project was a true testament to the dedication and generosity of our community. Much of the work was done by our own church members, who gave their time, skills, and labor, working together to construct the building while trusting in God's provision.
One memorable part of the project was the donation of logs, which played a key role in construction and gave the building its recognizable log cabin appearance. These shared efforts not only provided us with a beautiful space to worship but also fostered a deep sense of connection and fellowship among church members. On September 2, 2001 we came together for our first official service in the new building, grateful for God's blessing and guidance throughout the project.
LEADERS THROUGH THE YEARS
Our church has been blessed with strong and dedicated leadership throughout its history. In the first year, Pastor David Mohl served as interim pastor, helping to guide the church through its earliest days.
Pastor Ken McNally was called as the church's first full-time pastor in September of 1988. For thirty-four years, he faithfully preached God's Word, helping us to grow in our understanding of Scripture and strengthen our walk with the Lord.
Pastor Barry Carle became our first assistant pastor on February 7, 1993. He faithfully taught Sunday School and offered guidance and encouragement to members.
Pastor Chris McNally became assistant pastor in June of 2012, and then transitioned to senior pastor in September 2016. He faithfully shepherded the church, continuing the legacy of Christ-centered leadership by teaching Biblical truths and guiding each of us in living out our faith.
In September of 2024, Pastor Dave Brown stepped in as interim pastor, guiding the church through a time of transition. Known for his powerful and engaging messages, he encouraged church members while challenging us to grow deeper in our faith.
Today, Pastor Aaron Booth leads our church as senior pastor. Since starting on January 4, 2026, he has devoted himself to pointing people to God, helping us mature in our relationship with Him, and encouraging us to serve and grow according to God's will.
